This is much belated I just saw Evelyn in. A clip of the muppets take Manhattan wedding scene and looked her up and saw this obituary. She did a bunch of shows with my mom at THCT and I remember her fondly from When I was very little into my teens. RIP Desr lady , you were a class act . You’ll always be Frau Schmidt to me ! What a talent ! Rest easy !

What a pleasure it was to know Evelyn. She and Victor were my long time neighbors on Park Drive. It is never easy when someone leaves us but to know that she lived life to the fullest leaves no room for sorrow. She made sure to squeeze every ounce of joy and fulfillment out of life. For Evelyn, that never stopped. Her friends and family can only hope that we can be so fortunate as we all move through life. I know that is my goal and if I'm half as lucky as Evelyn, I will consider myself ahead of the game.

I just learned of Evelyn's passing, so I belatedly offer my sincere condolences. Everything everyone has said is so true; she was a very special person, whom I remember fondly and think of often. We become very close when we walked Mall spaces for a month during the filming of "Scenes from a Mall" and for many years after she and Vic and my late husband Bernie and I would meet and enjoy evenings together, or she and I would meet for lunch and long chats. We did lose touch when I moved to California, but I thought of her fondly through the years. I will always remember her.

Evy was the president of THCT when I joined in 1979. She was a wonderful, warm and welcoming person and I was sad when she left the company in the early 80's. I remember caroling outside her home one year with the members of the group. I am sorry I lost touch with her over the years.

Doris, ( 96 and testing her recall) remembers Evelyn fondly said she was ‘always good for a laugh’. ‘We shared many memorable years together at the Eastchester Women’s Club’ putting on shows and supporting local causes.

Evy was a wonderful actress, friend and most importantly, a person. I started in the THTG in mid sixties and Evy joined i think in the 70's and made her mark the second she joined. I believe she joined in Music Man and she made he mark then. Our paths crossed many times over the years and she will be greatly missed.

I was so very sorry to hear that Evelyn had passed away and would like to send my sincere sympathies to her family and friends. Evelyn was such a lovely person who always made you feel welcomed. I worked with her on many community theatre productions, both with The Harrison Players and with Eastchester Town Hall Players. She always brought such joy to whatever she was doing and was extremely talented. Not only did she give her all on stage, but she worked hard behind the scenes as well. I know how very much she will be missed by many, and especially her Westchester theater family.

My deepest sympathies go out to Evelyn's family and her extensive network of friends. In 1983, Evelyn appeared in a play I wrote, "Teach Us to Laugh Again" (directed by Bob Fitzsimmons), in which she played the zany, fun-loving, and wise aunt of the central character. I also had the great pleasure of playing that character opposite Evelyn, who was such a joy to work with. I have been an actor for over half a century and being with Evelyn was one of the most entertaining experiences of the entertainment business. I met her on a movie set sometime in the early Nineties and for a period of years worked with her on a fairly regular basis. If she was on a movie set, I was sitting next to her because she was intelligent, cheerful and screechingly funny. She had a big heart and a cynical mind and that combination frequently resulted in convulsive laughter. It was like working with Voltaire’s Den Mother. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of one of my most unforgettable acquaintances.

Evelyn was my friend. Though, to be honest, I don’t know how or when she became my friend, she just was! I met her when I was 18, and she was just fun to be around at Town Hall Meetings, but we hadn’t been in any shows together or anything. My real friendship probably started through Carol Chesney, who would invite me to lunch at the Eastchester Diner with Evelyn and Muriel Gould Horowitz. In time, Evelyn and I would meet there, without the others, and the friendship just built! I could talk to her about anything! My beaus and my broken heart, family, friends, and of course, “the biz!” We were both auditioning and doing film work at the same time, but as I burned out, Evelyn kept going! She had chutzpah and nothing could stop her! I loved meeting with her to hear the stories. She was great!! Evelyn also worried about me, the way a mother would. She would advise me and look for husbands for me—sometimes asking strangers if they knew anyone! Haha I loved her for caring about me so much. Once a year, she and Victor would go to an annual slide party that I also attended. The laughing never stopped! Evelyn made friends with everyone she met. She was fabulous that way. And, everyone loved her! You just couldn’t help but love Evelyn!! Evelyn, I hope you’re knocking them dead up there!! Love you!!

To all Evelyn’s Family and Friends I was so grieved at hearing of Evelyn ‘s passing ... I met her through theater and as a budding actress ,Evelyn was so helpful and informative about “ Showbiz” ... she was so giving and always willing to help give advice and information on agents and tips on auditioning ... and was one of the nicest people I had ever met ... not just an excellent actress but an exceptional woman who was so gracious and as I got to know her we became friends ... I met her for lunch and at social events when I was living in Westchester and I enjoyed our chats and the warmth and loving nature she had always shown me ... I moved to Manhattan and lived part of the year in South Carolina and had lost contact with many of my theater friends but I thought of her often and was saddened by her passing ... My sincerest condolences to her family and friends ... she was a very giving loving woman and a terrific actress and spread kindness wherever she went ... I know she has a great role in Heaven... My condolences to all of Evy’s family on her loss. She was quite the force of energy, vitality and love. We met in the early 60’s through Town Hall Community Theater group. She loved all the young kids that ended up joining in the years to come, and we all loved her and Vic. One of my best memories of her when she and Ann Droukas showed up at my house to bring gifts to my newborn adopted son! They were so sweet and regaled us with memories of their children as infants! Evy was a gift to us all. May she Rest In Peace in the arms of the angels. Blessings to all of her family.
