Obituary for Esther R. Salvatore (DiPippo)

Esther R. Salvatore (nee DiPippo), 92, lifelong resident of Eastchester, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on January 19, 2019. Esther shared 32 years of marriage with her loving husband Daniel Salvatore prior to his passing in 1980. Esther’s life was devoted to her faith, raising her children, loving her many nieces, nephew and cousins, adoring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing the violin and cherishing her Italian heritage.
The daughter of Antonetta (née Romeo) and Crescenzo DiPippo, Esther was born on August 13, 1926 in Bronxville and lived in Eastchester her entire life. She grew up with her siblings, Christopher and Gloria, and her many close cousins. Esther attended Waverly elementary school and graduated from Eastchester High School in 1944. After completing school, she attended New York University to study music and was later employed at Liberty Mutual Insurance.
On September 19, 1948, she married Daniel Salvatore of Tuckahoe and raised 3 daughters in Eastchester. A devout Catholic, she attended mass regularly at Assumption of our Lady in Tuckahoe, a place of worship that her father and grandfather helped to build. She was an active parishioner and was a proud member of the Rosary Altar Society, Sodality, Eastchester/Tuckahoe Senior Center and Yonkers Philharmonic as a violinist.
She enjoyed her family immensely and instilled her faith, a love of music, a strong work ethic and the bond of family across many generations.
Esther was predeceased by her husband Daniel, her parents Antonetta and Crescenzo, her brother Christopher and her sister Gloria.
She is survived by her children Christine (John) Capossela, Denise (Robert) Garofalo, Essie (Robert) Giraldi, her grandchildren Crista (Andrew) DeStefano, Cara (Anthony) DiNapoli, Danielle (Joseph) Cirasella, Elena (Dan) Sammartano, Robert Giraldi, Diana Garofalo (Cristian Cleary), her great-grandchildren John, Anthony, Mark, JC, Leo, Maria and Nico.
The family will receive friends at the Westchester Funeral Home, Eastchester on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4-8pm. Mass Friday, January 25, 2019 at 9:30am Assumption of our Lady in Tuckahoe.
