Obituary for Elizabeth Shea

Elizabeth “Betty” Shea nee Curtin, age 91, of Eastchester, NY, formally of the Bronx, passed peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in Dromin, Listowel, Co. Kerry, Ireland to Denis and Elizabeth Curtin. Betty is now reunited with her husband Jim who predeceased her by 39 years, her grandson Jimmy Connors (2002), and her daughter Mary Connors (2007). She is also predeceased by 14 of her 15 siblings. Betty is survived by her sister Noreen Donahue, Manchester, UK, and by her children Kathleen Huvane (Stephen), Eastchester NY, James (Fran), Mahopac, NY, Denis (Lisa), Somers, NY, Elizabeth Ahern (Brendan), Eastchester, NY, Jack (Dayna), Carmel, NY, and beloved son-in-law Danny Connors (Vilma), Whitestone, NY. She leaves her loving grandchildren, Kaitlin (Conner), Kevin, Eilish (Robby), Danny, Megan, Stephen, Erin, Liam, Kieran, Timmy, Emma, Olivia, Jimmy, Ben, Christian, and Gracyn. She was also the delighted great grandmother of Aiden, Caroline, Marykate and Teddy who brought her endless joy. Survived by her niece Kathleen Curtin as well as numerous nieces and nephews here and abroad.

Betty was loved in life and will be missed by all that knew her. She left her home in Ireland at 16 and emigrated to England where she met the love of her life, Jim. Then in 1958 Betty emigrated to the United States where she joined Jim, who was living in New York. They wed in January of 1960. Together they raised a family of 6 children. They generously offered their home to be the steppingstone for others to pursue the American dream. Betty was one who quietly gave back, a dedicated positive force for many years who volunteered to tirelessly serve in various roles for the church, school and clubs. Upon Jim’s passing, she began a new career as a cook for the New York City Board of Education. In 1993, Betty moved to Eastchester, NY. She took great pride in her home and preparing delicious meals for her large family and many friends. In 2001, she retired allowing her to spend more time with her loving family.

Betty was an example to all. She enriched the lives of those who knew her. Her faith provided her with the strength and determination to face many family tragedies. She endured challenges in her life that no one should ever have to experience yet her incredible love for life never faltered.

We have been lucky to have Betty in our lives. She was our rock and showed us how to be strong in the tough times and how to enjoy the good times. We will carry on here on earth comforted in the knowledge that Betty is now enjoying being with her loved ones who patiently waited for her to join them.

Until we meet again, we will forever hold Betty in our hearts and live life the way she showed us.
“Good night and God Bless.”
