Obituary for Dorothy Constance Slater (Nordone)

Dorothy Constance Nordone Slater was happiest surrounded by and involved in people's lives, especially her 14 siblings. Her mind and hands were never idle. She was a gifted writer, possessed a beautiful voice, played piano by ear, was a remarkable seamstress, a secretary, a realtor, wife, mother, and grandmother. Dottie was never happier than in the bustle of activity, dancing, visiting; on the last night in her apartment, she was busy preparing an eggplant dinner to celebrate a neighbor's birthday.
Into her 80s, call her, and she'd pick up on the first ring, no matter the time of day or night. If you asked what she was doing, it was likely cleaning, cooking, or changing her curtains. She took enormous pride in her home and joy in celebrating and decorating for every holiday. Despite her small apartment, her Christmas village never diminished in size, nor did her enthusiasm for celebrating with family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and enlisted them in Christmas village-making, instilling wonder into the season.
She loved life and lived it fully and independently until the very end. On her last Christmas morning, the day before her passing, she enjoyed a bowl of rice pudding with her health aide chatting and thanking her for her efforts. She left us still longing for more life with family and friends. She always talked of her next project during daily calls, never lacking a dream for tomorrow. Her effervescence, sense of humor, and sheer life force will be missed.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Mary (Coppola) Nordone and Ralph Nordone; her husband, James Slater; divorced husband Louis J. Wool; and siblings, Ralph, (Riff) James, Robert, Dennis, Mary Lovallo, Annette Janniello, Gilda Farewell, and Irene Lanigan.
She is survived by her children, Louis N. and Dennis Wool, and Judith Wagner; son-in-law Benjamin Wagner, former daughter-in-law Eve Tierson-Wool; grandchildren, Ashley, Eve, and Joshua Wool, Benjamin and Allison Wagner; siblings, Barbara Ingrassia, Joan Szabo, Paula Savino, Ronald, Paul and Linda Nordone.
