Obituary for Diane M. Flower

Diane Marjorie Flower passed away on September 1, 2019. Diane worked as the first female letter carrier in the Bronx, NY where she proudly earned her nickname, “The Flower of Fordham Road.” Diane proudly worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, dedicating 25 years to the people of her Riverdale route. Dianeʼs dedication to her job and willingness to always go above and beyond to assist the people on her route, made her a beloved letter carrier.
Diane was an incredibly kind and generous person who never said no to anyone who needed help. She will be remembered by everyone who ever met her as someone who would always be there, not only for the good times but always in difficult times. She truly had a heart of gold and could lift anyone up with her sense of humor. Diane was a dog-lover and had many dogs in her lifetime including Teddy, Aggie and Barney, she leaves behind her loving puppy, Cooper, who was always by her side.
Diane loved to be outdoors, whether it was her annual skiing trips to Vermont, numerous camping trips in the mountains or her yearly trips to her favorite place in Provincetown, Cape Cod. She always felt at home visiting the places she loved. Diane was a great athlete who played softball until 2017. She was a dedicated teammate with a competitive spirit. Diane played softball for nearly 50 years as well as in a womenʼs volleyball league and as a member of a championship flag football team. Diane had a way of making her teammates better, always leading by example. She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Knicks, Liberty and Giants. Diane loved to read and was an American History buff who enjoyed collecting antique furniture.
Diane is preceded in death by her father, Raymond, her mother Henrietta, as well as her brothers Raymond and Donald and her sister Marilyn (Flower) Geraghty. She is survived by her life-partner, Evelyn del Cerro; her sister, June Cotter and husband Bob; her brother Robert Flower and wife Janet; her nieces, Christine (Cotter) Coddington and her husband William; Kimberly (Flower) Mazzarelli and her husband Louis; Donna (Cotter) Cumba and her husband Ray; Tara (Flower) White and her husband Ed; Jennifer Cotter and Caitlin Geraghty, and her nephew Timothy Geraghty and his wife Katie.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Friday, September 6, 2019, 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 7, 2019 at 9f30 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church 409 E. 241 Street, Bronx, NY. Followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Judeʼs Childrenʼs Hospital or the ASPCA in Dianeʼs memory.
