Obituary for Cornell D'Onofrio

Cornell D’Onofrio, 87 passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022 surrounded by her family. Cornell was born in Greenburgh, NY on February 22, 1935. She was the daughter of Teresa and Antonio DiRenzo who immigrated from Colledimezzo, Italy. In her teens she met the love of her life, Armando “Monty” D’Onofrio, in Colledimezzo. Her family started Cherry Lawn Farm in New Rochelle, where she and Monty spent their lives growing the business that still thrives today. They spent their winters in Florida with her sister Mary and husband Tulio. They enjoyed their summers entertaining family and friends at their home in Italy.
Cornell was a friend to all. Those that were blessed enough to know her felt the love and caring that made her so special. She loved to bake and cook and would share that passion with friends and family. Often she would present her homemade pasta or baked goods to her neighbors, friends, doctors and even the house painter. She truly loved entertaining, her motto was “the more the merrier” She was a devout Catholic and throughout her life donated to so many charities, always believing it was better to give than to receive. Her devotion to her faith was paramount in her life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as Nana, shared a very special loving bond with her. She blessed them with so many beautiful memories. She is survived by her children, Ron D’Onofrio (Margaret), Susanne D’Onofrio (Tom Hocking), Kathy Pavone, (Joe) Armando D’Onofrio (Ariana) and her cherished grandchildren Michelle, Jason, Joe, Amanda, Jennifer, Kate, Hannah, Nick and Lauren, her great grandchildren, Douggie, Ashton, Lucas, Lio and Jolie.
