Obituary for Charles Joseph Schweitzer, Jr.

Charles Joseph Schweitzer, Jr. was born on November 19, 1943 and passed away peacefully in White Plains Hospital on May 10, 2024 at the age of 80. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was born in Mt. Vernon and raised by his parents, Lillian and Charles Sr. After graduating from Edison High School, Mt. Vernon, NY, Charlie pursued a career in heating and air conditioning until his retirement at age 65. Charlie was an expert technician and often mentored young colleagues new to the field. Prior to his retirement, he earned the position of Service Manager while still serving as a problem solving technician at Besson Oil, Tuckahoe, NY.

As a young man, Charlie served his Mt. Vernon community as a volunteer firefighter.

When Charlie was a teenager, his grandmother “NaNa” bought him his own horse, “Nancy Brown.” His love of horseback riding eventually evolved into his love of motorcycling. One of his favorite getaways was attending the Americade Motorcycle Rally held in Lake George, NY. While there,he enjoyed the camaraderie of other bikers as well as the opportunity to tour with his friends.

Among friends, Charlie was a compelling storyteller and regaled his listeners with colorful tales of his past.

Along with his wife Judith, he shared a love of the beach and enjoyed vacations along the northeast shore.

Charlie was a loving and devoted husband to Judith Zimmerman Schweitzer whom he married in November 1998 in Stamford, Ct.

Charlie was predeceased by his loving wife, Marguerite “Margie” Ambrose Schweitzer who passed away in August 1993.

He is survived by his wife Judith, his son Paul Joseph, his daughter-in-law, Georgeanne and granddaughters, Maggie Marie and Morgan Elizabeth as well as stepdaughters, Jessica Brodsky and Melissa Moskowitz.

Charlie will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
