Obituary for Carmela Scopino

Carmela Scopino, a dedicated mother, sister and grandmother aged 80 passed away peacefully at her Eastchester home surrounded by loved ones on February 4, 2023. Carmela was born the youngest of seven siblings to Gerardo and Filomena Forgione in Morra DeSanctis, Italy on January 27, 1943. After immigrating to the United States, she met the love of her life Antonio Scopino, and they married on October 15, 1972. In 1979 they moved to Eastchester where they raised their three children Asterio, Marilena and Antonio. Carmela loved to tend to her flowers and home as well as having family dinners. She enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn cooking from her grandsons to her daughter’s in-law. Annemarie and Angela. She was fond of making homemade tomato sauce, wine and cookies. Sharing her experiences and recipes for life was her special way of communicating with those around her. Carmela is loved by her family who will miss her tremendously. She is survived by her three children, Asterio (Annemarie) Scopino of Pleasantville, New York, Marilena (Julio) Sophia of Mount Vernon, New York and Antonio (Angela) Scopino of Lutz, Florida; her three grandchildren – Luke, Brian and Paul Scopino of Pleasantville, New York. Carmela was predeceased by her husband Antonio. May they both rest in the sweetest peace.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7th at the Westchester Funeral Home – 190 Main Street, Eastchester, New York from 4:00PM – 8:00PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 8th at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe. Entombment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carmela’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/ or a charity of your choice.
