Obituary for Betty McCarthy (Gruse)
Betty Joan McCarthy (Gruse) passed away peacefully on September 12, 2022 at the age of 88. She was born on July 28, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Walter and Florence (Liberi) Gruse. Betty grew up in Pelham, NY and attended St. Gabriel High School in New Rochelle where she met her future husband James McCarthy who attended St. Gabe's brother school Blessed Sacrament. They married on June 8, 1957 and were married for 54 years until the time of his death.
Betty and Jim lived in Eastchester, NY for many years and enjoyed their yearly trips to Lake George, NY and Siesta Key, Fl. Betty worked for the Eastchester Schools until she retired. She was artistic and kind and loved her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Wargin (Brian) of New Fairfield, Ct. and her adored grandchildren Kristin and Ailis Wargin, Christopher Haggard (Lynsey), Shaun and James Mann, and Mary and Sara McCormick. She is also survived by four great grandchildren Eli and Weston Haggard and Liam and Morgan Dicks. Along with her parents and husband James (2012) she was predeceased by her son Timothy (2001), and her brother Walter.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 9 am -12 pm at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Eastchester. A prayer service will take place at 11:30 am followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
