Obituary for Barbara Grossberg

Barbara Grossberg entered Heaven on October 8th having contracted Klebsiella pneumonia at the hospital.

She was the devoted mother of Andrew, widow of Joseph. Born in Brooklyn, she was the first college graduate of her family. A successful career at the Social Security Administration placed her adjacent to the WTC 9/11 attacks. She survived that day but spent her final three years fiercely fighting the resulting cancer with Andrew by her side and became a victim of the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. Barbara spent her retirement spreading joy and warmth in extensive volunteer and charity work with animals, human rights, the environment, and her church. She adored dogs, especially Fawn, her final one who she raised for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and her cherished horse Brooke, a gift from her stable. Deeply missed by Andrew, she was the perfect, supportive, non-judgmental mother loved by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, PETA, and the Westchester Humane Society.

Barbara's life will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale on October 16th at 10 am.
