Sr. Barbara Eirich, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away on September 21, 2019. She was born on April 9, 1931 to the late Ludwig and Dorothy (Devermann) Eirich in White Plains, NY. She earned her MSW from Fordham University. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Community on September 8, 1956 and had her final profession on July 14, 1962. Sr. Barbara was a teacher, a staff nurse for the Orthopedic Unit at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains, Social Worker, Executive Director for - Group Living Experience / Community Resource Center for the developmentally disabled in the Bronx, NY and an advocate for developmentally disabled at the Varies Program in Connecticut. Sr. Barbara is survived by her loving family: nephews Mitchell and Robert Thompson, niece Linda Thompson-Zumbach, 3 third generation and 3 fourth generation nieces and nephews.and her Sisters of St. Francis. Memorial visitation will be held Monday, September 30, 2019, from 2 - 4 PM at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 1 , 2019, at St. Catherine's Church in Pelham 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at the White Plains Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled, the agency Sr. Barbara started in 1976 which helps mentally and developmentally challenged individuals who cannot help themselves.
