Obituary for Avra Mark (Kessler)

MARK—Avra Kessler died February 24, 2024, in New York. Born October 27, 1925, in the Bronx, to Anne and Henry Kessler, she graduated from Barnard College in 1945 and married the love of her life, Dr. Herbert Mark. They were together until his death in 2006. Avra raised a family and then became a social worker upon obtaining an MSW at Columbia University in 1969. Specializing in geriatric social work, she later became Director of Social Services at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville and devoted many years to Student Advocacy Inc. in Elmsford, N.Y. An avid museum goer, classical music lover, and world traveler, she brought to her many enduring friendships warmth, devotion, and intellectual rigor. Avra is survived by her sons, Peter, Thomas, and Jeremy, their spouses, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Donations in her memory can be made to Student Advocacy Inc. https://studentadvocacy.net/donate-today/
