Obituary for Augustina Marie Forte (Zappile)

Augustina "Augie" Forte, née Zappile, was born in the Bronx on April 7, 1929, and passed peacefully on April 11, 2023, at 94. Augie was born to Paul and Emily Zappile. She is survived by her husband, Vincent, and her children, Vincent Forte (Jennifer), Tina Zaccardi (Vincent), and Victor Forte (Sascha). She leaves her loving grandchildren, Christina, Alexander, Annemieke, and Adriana. She is also survived by her nephew Paul Zappile. She is predeceased by her parents, her Aunt Rosaline Vasso, and her brother Paul.

Augie grew up in the Bronx across the street from her future husband, both graduates of Roosevelt High School. She married Vincent on July 1, 1951, and they moved with their three children to Eastchester in 1965. She quickly became involved at the local school, from volunteering in one of the first-grade classes to organizing card parties and events for the Anne Hutchinson PTA. In the spring, you could always find her volunteering at the refreshment stand at the Little League field. Augie worked in the attendance office and as assistant to the Dean at Eastchester High School from 1980-1998. After her retirement, she loved to knit, crochet, and bake and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.

Sunday meals epitomized her devotion to family. She would host the extended family at our home each weekend and holiday, working from before we were awake to well after people departed. Last to sit at the table and the first to rise, she prioritized others' enjoyment. Mom made sure we knew we were cared for and loved unconditionally, even when disappointed. She lived her life for her family and others. Unassuming and quiet, she was the selfless rock upon which we found comfort and calm.

She is loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.

In her memory we ask all that knew her to please perform a random act of kindness.

Family will receive friends at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. Monday, April 17 from 5-9 pm. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe Tuesday April 18 at 10:30 am followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye. Private Burial for family and personal friends of Augustina
