Obituary for Antonio Iamartino

Antonio Iamartino
Antonio "Tony" Iamartino, 94, of Eastchester passed away on March 15, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. Antonio was born on May 28, 1927 in Montevideo, Uruguay to Crescenza (Iamiceli) and Michele Iamartino. He is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Nancy (Elia) and daughter, Diana. Also survived by his sister Fiorina Pereira of Montevideo, Uruguay and many nieces and nephews. Antonio is predeceased by his parents; his son Michael, sister Filomena Sanzo and brother Serafino.
Raised in Sepino, Campobasso Italy of Italian parents from the age of 2.5, when his parents and sister Filomena immigrated back to Italy. At 20 years old, after the death of his mother, he left Italy; spent a short time in Uruguay, and made his journey to Mt. Vernon, NY, to begin a better life, where his aunt and uncle lived. He immigrated to the US in 1950.
He was a retired carpenter, a member of the former Westchester Carpenter's Union #493, now known as the North Atlantic States Carpenter's Union, and also the NY City District Carpenter's Union. He built both his family homes, and hundreds of others through his profession. He had hands of gold.
Anyone who knew Tony, loved him. They were amazed by his strength and stamina even gardening up to last summer. He was kind, hardworking, compassionate and generous. He never complained, no matter the circumstance. His wife and children were his top priority, and everything he did was for them in mind always. He grew the best tomatoes, figs and vegetable garden. He had a passion for music and watching Italian soccer. His favorite team was Napoli.
We mourn the loss of a loving and devoted husband and father and would appreciate all who knew him to remember his beautiful heart and all the goodness he brought into this world.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER, on Tuesday March 22nd 4-9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday March 23rd at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
