Obituary for Antoinette Petrillo (Carapella)

Antoinette (Carapella) Petrillo
June 11, 1921-September 9, 2020

Antoinette Petrillo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the age of 99 at the Eleanor Nursing Center in Hyde Park, NY.

Antoinette was born to Nancy and Vincenzo Carapella on June 11, 1921 in Tuckahoe, NY. She grew up with her brother, Ernest and sister, Teresa in a loving Italian American home and in a close knit community of many family and friends in Tuckahoe. She graduated from Eastchester High School. In 1948 she married Leonard, the love of her life. They were blessed with three children, Jimmy, Phyllis and Nancy.

When Antoinette lost her husband at the young age of 47, she supported her family by working at the Woolworth’s soda fountain. She touched many lives by connecting with people and making them feel special. Her cooking was amazing and her recipes were passed down to her children for future generations to enjoy. She was “Grannie Annie” to her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She loved taking trips to Vermont, Atlantic City and her son’s football games. As a result football was her favorite sport, and she was a big fan of the NY Giants.

Antoinette’s later years were spent in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she made many new friends and continued to love and nurture her family. Her family wishes to extend many thanks to the nurses and staff at the Eleanor Nursing Center and Hudson Valley Hospice for the love and caring they gave to Antoinette.

The family will receive friends and family at the Westchester Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2020 9am-10am. Memorial Mass, Friday October 16, 2020 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Interment of cremains to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, they welcome donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation,
