Obituary for Adrian De Groot

Adrian De Groot, a loving husband, devoted father and dynamic businessman, left this world on Tuesday, December 12, in Greenwich, Ct. Complications from Parkinson’s Disease dimmed his last years, but he handled his limitations with strength and grace. An active Methodist throughout his adult life, Adrian had great faith in God and His promise of eternal life. He chaired numerous church committees and taught Bible study classes in his later years.

Born in August 1944 in Petoskey, Michigan, Adrian was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned BA and MBA degrees. His long and successful business career took him from Hershey Foods in Pennsylvania, to Lever Brothers in New York City, to Pillsbury in Minneapolis, then back to New York where he spent several years as President of NBA Properties. Sports licensing was his specialty. His many friends in the business work describe him as a man of character and commitment, honesty and kindness.

Relocating from Scarsdale, New York, to Newport Beach California in 1999, Adrian led Aminco International to produce commemorative pins for Olympic Games in Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Athens, Torino, and Vancouver. For fun, he enjoyed biking and travel, combining the two in bicycle trips to France, Italy, Turkey and China with his wife Barbara.

In addition to Barbara, his wife of 56 years, Adrian is survived by his son Adrian Paul, daughter Dana De Groot Marchiony, son-in-law Brian Marchiony, and grandchildren Kait, Louie, Kelly, and Courtney.
His life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6 at 11 am at Asbury Church, 167 Scarsdale Road, Tuckahoe, NY. Another memorial service will be held at University United Methodist Church in Irvine, California in February.
