Obituary for Adelaide Sullivan Fix (Sullivan)

Adelaide Regina Fix (né Sullivan) passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024. She was born in Manhattan, New York on September 1, 1938 to Nancy and James Sullivan. She was a beloved sister to Jimmy, Agnes, Mary, Virginia and Nancy. In 1955, Adelaide graduated from St. Barnabas High School, in Bronx, NY, and went on to work as an Administrative Assistant. She went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) Fix and they were married February 16,1958. Adelaide and Tom created a wonderful life in Eastchester and were blessed with 4 children; Adelaide, Kathleen, Thomas and Susanne. They were involved in the community in Eastchester and their church, Immaculate Conception. Adelaide and Tom thoroughly enjoyed working with the IC Players for many years in productions such as “Hello Dolly” where Adelaide made her stage debut as the lead, Dolly! Adelaide loved gardening and worked in the marketing field on and off over the years. Her favorite product she helped develop was the inchworm lapel pin with a logo “inch by inch", which was a motto she lived by! Adelaide loved to learn and was a voracious reader. Tom passed away in 1985 and Adelaide took on a new challenge - running their Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store. Needless to say Adelaide was a prominent figure in the Riverdale neighborhood, creating beautiful ice cream cakes and cones and on occasion was seen chasing down thieves who thought she was an easy target. She proved them wrong!
Adelaide had many passions, but the most important ones were her faith and family. She was an integral part in establishing Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, which she participated in for many years. Adelaide was a Eucharistic minister, member of the Altar Society, and traveled numerous times to Medjugorie and Fatima in her devotion to our Blessed Mother. Adelaide was a devoted and loving Mother to her four children, but when the Grandchildren started arriving, the fun side of her really came out! Homey-G, as she was fondly referred to, loved being involved in all of her grandchildren’s school and sporting activities . She was often seen with a video camera on her shoulder capturing every moment. She loved to dance and had “the robot” perfected! She showed her sense of humor when embellishing pictures of her grandkids with “bubble conversations”, and she sent the best “snail mail”. Crisp new dollar bills were always appreciated in all her cards. Birthdays were always a meaningful celebration with Adelaide, especially on Christmas when she made a birthday cake for Jesus every year. Adelaide is predeceased by Tom and her beloved granddaughter Mary Cassandra, who she loved and cherished. She leaves behind her children Adelaide Fix, Kathleen Scott, Thomas Fix ( Megan) and Susanne Miller; grandchildren Brittany Dura (Chris), Shannon Fischer, Matthew Trummer, Annie Boehmcke (Rich) , Cali Gillespie (Ryan) , Jeffrey Scott, Kent and Grace Miller, Amelia and TJ Fix, and her “Greats” who called her “GGma” Laila, Joseph and Ellie Dura. Adelaide also leaves numerous sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews, and many more she loved dearly.
Adelaide was loved and adored by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 18, 2024 from 4-8 PM at the Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Main St. Eastchester, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
