Our Thanatology Library
Our Thanatology Library was developed in 1980. We have utilized a room at the side of our building with a separate entrance for our library. Over the years students studying death and dying, social workers, hospice volunteers and our families have used the library extensively. We are continuously adding books to the library especially in the last few years with national emphasis on education in the field of death and dying.

We hope you as Funeral Directors, Cemeterians and Clergy will find this bibliography helpful. We would be glad to assist our colleagues in any way, as they continue in service to their families.

The Thanatology Library of the Westchester Funeral Home is made available to our community. Thanatology embraces the study of death and dying and it's related subject areas. The books and media resources in our lending library are available during the hours 10-4, Monday through Friday or by appointment. We are continually adding resources to our library so if you do not see a book or film listed, please call to see if it is now available. You may wish to use our library...

  • If you are bereaved and need to understand the emotions and feelings you are experiencing.
  • If you are a concerned relative, friend, or neighbor of a bereaved person, and hope to provide comfort.
  • If you are in a helping profession and need additional resources to share with your patients and clients to contribute to the healing process.
  • If you are a student of psychology, social work or education and need information to increase the scope of your knowledge about the stages and experiences associated with bereavement and loss.
We each experience the death of someone we love in our own unique way. Your experience is right and valid for you. We at the Westchester Funeral Home hope that our lending library may be of service to you.
