Obituary for Michael T. "Micah" Dunn

Michael T. "Micah" Dunn
Michael “Micah” Thomas Dunn, 21, passed from this earth on Friday, December 22, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the early morning hours, Micah’s house caught fire and he tragically perished with his service dog, Hiccup, while trying to escape.

Micah was born on November 6th, 1996 in Kostroma, Russia. He volunteered and worked as a horse trainer, rehabilitating wild mustangs with the Equine Therapy and Horse Rescue Farm, The Stable Place in Utah. It was at The Stable Place where Micah met Thor, a habitually nervous and distrustful wild mustang. Over months of dedication and gentle training, Micah won Thor over. Their bond cemented, Micah adopted Thor not long after. In 2014, their extraordinary journey of trust and recovery was documented by Utah Stories in the article, The Stable Place - Healing for Horses and People.

When Micah wasn’t training Thor for barrel racing competitions, you could find him skiing, camping, rock climbing and going on adventures with his Australian Shepherd, Hiccup. At family gatherings, you’d most often find Micah picking out tunes on his ukulele or strumming his guitar.

Micah is survived by his father and mother, Michael and Luana, of Atlanta, GA and his sister, Sara, of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by his birth mother, Yana Beneda, of Minsk, Belarus, and his three Russian sisters.

The Wake will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on January 2, 2018 at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester, New York. Services will be held at 11 AM on January 3, 2018 at Queen of Peace Chapel, Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. Online condolences can be given at www.westchesterfuneralhome.com.

The Dunn family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, to please make donations in Micah’s memory to The Stable Place so that others can continue rehabilitation.
