Obituary for John J. Mulhern

John J.  Mulhern
John J. Mulhern, 82, of Little Neck died suddenly on September 27, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Catherine Mulhern. Devoted father of Patrick (Connie) Mulhern, Annmarie Mulhern Flannery, John Mulhern and Maureen Mulhern. Cherished grandfather of Timothy Mulhern, Jack Flannery, Erin Mulhern, James Flannery, and David Flannery. Dear brother of the late Catherine Abrams, Frances Walsh, and James Mulhern.
John received a bachelor's degree from NYU business school. John served in the US Army National Guard for over 30 years. He served as a medic and in the motor pool during the Gulf War, and was called up many times, most notably during the blizzard of 1977. He was a NYS Parole Officer and the chaplain of the American Legion Douglaston/Little Neck Post 103. He traveled the world as an international courier for Securicor/Brinks security. He was the Little Neck/Douglaston Man of the Year, honored by the Lions Club in 2010. John was known for his patriotism, sense of humor and his kind heart. He was involved in many civic organizations, he co-founded a church based group who went every Sunday under the 59th St bridge to feed and clothe the homeless, and he also coached CYO basketball for almost 30 years.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Saturday, October 1, 2017, 1-3 and 6-8pm. Mass, Monday October 2, 2017 at 9:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven.
