Robert E.  Martin MD
On September 17, 2017 longtime Eastchester resident Dr. Robert E. Martin, 86, entered eternal life. He is survived by his wife MaryEllen, with whom he enjoyed a loving 53 years of marriage, his children Timothy (Patricia), Roberta, and Brian (Diana). He was the proud grandfather of Gabrielle and Patrick, brother of Edward G. Martin and Marie Smith (deceased).
Dr. Martin was born in Astoria, NY in 1931 to Mary and George Martin. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial HS in Brooklyn (’49), Manhattan College (’53) and received his medical degree from New York Medical College in (’57). He completed his residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in (’61), after which he was appointed to the staff. During his tenure, he served as liaison between the hospital and the Bureau of Preventive Diseases of the NYC Department of Health. He was a certified diplomat of the Board of Internal Medicine. He loved volunteering, and for 40 years treated patients at Lenox Hill Hospital’s free medical clinic. After his time at Lenox Hill, he was Executive Medical Examiner for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company until he retired in (’96).
Dr. Martin was active in his local community. He was an involved parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church for over 45 years where he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, on the parish council, and as a chair of the Respect Life Committee.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus of Keogh Council 2108, where he served as Grand Knight, financial secretary, and blood drive coordinator. In addition, he was past president of the Bronxville Manor Association, the Home School Association, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, and the Westchester Guild of the Catholic Medical Association. For over 35 years he was active in pro-life causes. For 15 years he was active with the Pregnancy Care Center in New Rochelle, serving as a board member for much of that time. The family will receive friends on Wednesday Sept. 20, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Westchester Funeral home, Inc. Eastchester. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Sept. 21, 2107 at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery Eastchester, NY
