Katherine ""Kitty""  VerSnyder
Katherine (Kitty) VerSnyder, 90, beloved mother of Connie Welling, Christine VerSnyder and Kelly Byrd passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18. Born Katherine Kelly in Watertown, NY, she grew up in Brownville, the daughter of a grocer and a nurse. She attended Syracuse University and Albertus Magnus College, where she earned a B.A. in English. She was married in 1948 to Francis VerSnyder, who pre-deceased her. After raising three daughters, Kitty volunteered at Gaylord Hospital, and later worked for many years as a historical interpreter at the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Ct. She was an ardent feminist and supported NOW all of her adult life. She retired to Naples, FL where she lived for 20 years, doing volunteer work for the Naples Humane Society. Kitty is also survived by her sons-in-law Martin Welling, Steve DiVito and Randy Byrd, by her grandsons Justin Welling and Alexander Welling, by her granddaughter-in-law Jenny Welling-Palmer and by her great grandson Rupert Newcomb-Palmer. The wake will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 4:00-8:00 pm at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main St., Eastchester, N.Y.
