Obituary for Kathleen Kurtz

Kathleen M. Kurtz, (Tyner) passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. Born to George and Alice Tyner in Manhattan on August 20, 1949. Kathy was the beloved wife of her husband Mike and a loving mother to her 3 children Christopher (Jennifer), Kevin (Melinda) and Alison Kurtz (Eric Stechler). She was a devoted grandmother to her 2 grandchildren, Jackson and Alexa. She is survived by her sister Alice (McGovern), in-laws Joseph and Carolyn Kurtz and Irene and Richard Sheridan; and nine wonderful nieces and nephews.
Kathy graduated from Monsignor Scanlan High School and received her undergraduate degree from Mercy College. She received her Masters degree in Education from Hunter College.
Always a kind and compassionate person, Kathy worked as a special education teacher for BOCES Southern Westchester for 23 years. Kathy loved to travel, play tennis and relax with a good book. She will always be remembered by all who knew her for her courage and for her beautiful smile.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Saturday, March 18, 2017, 2-4pm and Sunday, March 19, 2017, 2-4 and 6-8pm. Mass, Monday March 20, 2017 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monsignor Scanlan High School, Bronx, NY.
