Obituary for Robert S. Rankin

A Memorial Service for one of the few remaining Navy Veterans of WWII will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crestwood, Yonkers on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. for Robert S. Rankin, age 93. Born February 5, 1924, in Braintree, Mass. In 1943, he enlisted in the regular U.S. Navy. His final assignment was on a small ship assigned to clear and detonate mines down by allied planes in Japanese rivers and harbors in 1947. In 1947, he joined the U.S. State Department and was sent to Iceland. After two years returned to the United States, eventually married, settled in Westchester, is survived by two children, twins, Marquerite DeAngelo, Robert P. Rankin and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA or Wounded Warriors.
