Obituary for Joseph A. Massaro

Joseph A. Massaro, 85, of Eastchester, died on Oct. 3, 2016. Beloved husband of Marie, devoted father of Joy (Alan) Blair, Joseph A. (Andrea) Massaro, Jr. and Edward (Dawn) Scannell. Cherished grandfather of Joseph (Teva), Alex (Jamie) and Matthew Blair, Alexandra, Joseph III and Samantha Massaro and Dylan and Jake Scannell and great grandfather of Rowan and Deacon Blair, and uncle of Joann Robertson (David). Dear brother of the late Annette Connolly and Jane Petragella.
Joe graduated from Eastchester High School in 1949, recognized for his artistic abilities. As a corporal, he served three years in the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany. Joe worked as an independent mason contractor. His work was well known in Westchester County for stucco work, chimneys and fireplaces, and the construction of "dry" rock walls. He also built homes throughout Westchester County. He had a special affinity for animals and had many pets during his life. Joe was a prolific reader, his main interests being history, especially non-fiction accounts of the world wars, and biographies.
Joe was easily recognizable around town, driving his shiny, black 1988 Lincoln Town Car. He took great pride in his car, religiously washing and waxing it weekly. Joe was a man of routines who loved a nightly glass of red wine, dining out on Saturday night, Sunday gravy, vacationing on the Jersey Shore every summer, and wintering in Florida. He reveled in family traditions and celebrations. He was above all, the beloved patriarch of his family.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER, Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass, Saturday 10am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery. To sign our online guestbook visit www.westchesterfuneralhome.com
